Hotel Review: Poseidon Hotel Positano, Is it worth over $1,000/Night?
What is the most money you’ve ever spent on one night at a hotel? $300? $500? More than $1,000? I’m not sure how I came across this luxury Postinesean hotel, but man is it beautiful. The mountainy of mountains, the smell of the ocean, the stunning colorful buildings that are the backbone of the back drop of this hotel. There is a reason why Positano brings in about 5 million people a year. Nestled at top of it is all is one hotel that drips luxury unlike any other, Poseidon Hotel Positano.
Arrival/Check-in & General Information
Upon arrival you are greeted with the most lovely front desk/concierge. Pro Tip: If you are early to arrive to your hotel always ask if your room is available. We were able to check into our room early, check in is normally at 3pm but we were able to get in by 12pm! The concierge guided us to our room in the smallest, old fashion elevator I’d ever been in (it doesn’t work unless the doors are closed by the last person who used it). As our concierge led us to our room and opened the wooden door with a key, I knew we were in for a treat.
The Room (aka How Much?)
We stayed in a “Premium room with Private Terrace” and to be completely honest, this is the most expensive hotel I have stayed in to date. We were staying here for my birthday celebrations & for one night at that but it was a wapping $1520 euro (at the time of travel ~$1400 USD) to stay here for one night during the high season. There are slightly cheaper options (still in the $1000s) But, the room had an amazing views of Positano and it my opinion is worth the splurge for a special occasion. Money doesn’t buy happiness, but it buys stunning views of Positano and that makes me happy. The room had all of the typical toiletries, nothing too special. Video below of the view from our room!

Hotel Amenities (The one’s you will actually use)
Poseidon Hotel has some of the nicest and coolest amenities I’ve ever had the pleasure of experiencing. Here are the amenities I actually used:
- The pool is laid out in front of the breath taking back drop of Positano and the sea. It is on the smaller side, but that didn’t bother us because of the comfy sun chairs we laid in all day.
- They don’t have a gym which would normally upset me (gym rat over here) but since we were only staying here for 1 night I wanted to soak up as much of this beautiful place as possible.
- The coolest amenity they had by far was being able to rent their old Volkswagen bettle and drive it around Positano. Keep in mind it is a very old car (at times it was scary driving) and it is manual so that’s a skill you’ll need to have if you want to take this old bug out for a spin. You will also need to reserve the car (I recommend doing this at check in, I tried to reserve before then and they said no because sometimes the car goes in for unplanned maintenance), it is a one hour rental so don’t go too far. This was one of the highlights of staying here driving top down along the Amalfi coast 😉
- A random amenity which I thought was pretty cool was having our clothes ironed for us! When we called to ask for an iron & board they didn’t have one.. instead a member of the staff came up, grabbed our clothes and returned them to us nice and unwrinkled. Definitely something I was not used it and was unique to this stay.
- I didn’t have a chance to go to the spa but from the looks of it, I would definitely check it out if you have more time to spare in Positano.
Dining & Food
- The hotel has a very popular restaurant on site and the perks of staying here.. you are almost guaranteed a reservation (even at the last minute). Il Tridente” Restaurant is an upscale Italian restaurant that boasts fine dining. Definitely recommend coming here even if you are not staying at the hotel. I recommend booking in advance but they have last minute tables reserved for hotel guests
- We also had the pleasure of having breakfast delivered to our room in the morning. They give you a card you fill out the night before and breakfast is delivered to you in the morning.
- Service by the pool was AMAZING. Of course we had too many aperol spritz to count and calamari. What really surprised me was the iced coffee.. if you know anything about traveling to Italy (or Europe in general), they do NOT serve iced anything. The iced coffee at Poseidon Hotel Positano was some of the best iced coffee I’ve had in Europe, they even had dairy free alternatives for my non-dairy peeps.
Pros/Cons
Pros
- Centrally located and walkable to the beach
- Poseidon Hotel Positano has some of the most unique amenities I’ve ever experienced
- Has a pool
- Great views
- Food onsite is also great
- You are able to use the facilities all day upon checkin and checkout
Cons
- Its a pretty steep walk up and down hill if you have any physical restrictions. Also during the hot summer months can be tiring
- Obviously staying in Positano in general is expensive. Poseidon is pretty comparable to other hotels in the area
