A culinary and cultural journey through Dublin, Ireland, unveils a vibrant tapestry of flavors, histories, and atmospheres. The capital city, renowned for its rich literary heritage, captivating historical sites, and lively streets, also boasts an equally compelling gastronomic scene. From the cozy corners of traditional Irish pubs brimming with folklore and music to the innovative kitchens of contemporary restaurants pushing the boundaries of cuisine, Dublin offers a unique blend of the old and new. In this guide, I will dive into the heart of Dublin’s culinary excellence, exploring the top 20 bars and restaurants that define the city’s food and drink landscape. The nice thing about Dublin unlike a lot of other European countries, I felt like you didn’t have to make a reservation at most places. We went during the summer and found it quite easy to walk in and grab a bite. If you are going during St Patricks Day, I think find yourself struggling to find a table, best to book ahead if you are going in the month of March 🙂

- Gallagher’s Boxty House: I had to put this first on the list because I will not shut the hell up and will not stop recommending it to anyone who will listen lol! Boxty House serves traditional Irish cuisine in the coziest restaurant located in Temple Bar. Known for the “Boxty” aka potato pancake, we had the wings and stew and they were the star of the show.
2. Darkey Kelly: One of the most amazing pubs in Dublin with Irish cuisine and live music. This one is number one of my list when I return to Dublin. Guinness chocolate mousse?! Sign me up!
3. The Old Mill Restaurant: If you’re seeking genuine Irish flavors and dishes, you have to check out Old Mill. Centrally located in Temple Bar, Old Mill boasts Irish culture and aesthetic.
4. The Brazen Head: Famously recognized as the country’s oldest pub, with its origins dating back to 1198. This historic venue is not just a place for enjoying a pint; it’s steeped in Irish history and culture. Stew and fish & chips are my go to 🙂
5. Mister S: Mister S is all about the magic of cooking with fire. Nestled on Camden Street Lower, this cozy spot brings the warmth right from its grill to your table. This is at the top of my list when I return to Dublin.
6. The Long Hall: I absolutely love the interior of this pub. It has a Victorian dark interior that sets the vibe. Although they do not serve food, I had to include this on the list because of the beauty it is.
7. Murphy’s Bistro Cafe: Murphy’s Bistro Cafe bring a unique take on traditional Irish food that offers a cozy blend of Irish and Turkish cuisines. Breakfast, lunch or dinner you will not be disappointed.
8. The Bull & Castle: We visited Bull & Castle on a whim when we were in Dublin. We truly enjoyed our dinner of different steak cuts and yummy side dishes. If you’re feeling a steak on your trip this is the place.
9. Quays: Traditional Irish food in the middle of Temple Bar. Every Irish dish you can think of is here, you cannot go wrong.
10. The Temple Bar: Did you really visit Dublin if you didn’t take a picture in front of the iconic red bricked Temple Bar??? Making it into the top 10 for its social status, the Temple Bar is a must visit when coming to Dublin. With a lively atmosphere and live music, the drinks are good, the food looks decent, but let’s be real you are here for the gram.
11. Library Street Restaurant: Another unique find, nestled in a historic library. The library restaurant is a contemporary style restaurant with dishes meant to be shared. A blend of Irish, French and Italian cuisines, you will walk out with an enjoyable experience.
12. Grano: Grano brings authentic Southern Italian cuisine to Stoneybatter area of Dublin, focusing on fresh, organic ingredients and handmade pasta. Homemade pasta.. do I need to say must else?
13. The Port House: The interior of this restaurant is what drew my attention but when I took a look at the menu is what had me add it to this list. The Port House is a tapas is a Spanish tapas restaurant with all your traditional favs with a variety of wines.
14. Fish Shop: Fish Shop in Smithfield brings a fresh take on seafood in Dublin, spotlighting the finest local catches with their daily evolving menu. Paired with a glass of wine, *chefs kiss*
15. Shouk: Located in Drumcondra, this restaurant is known for its vibrant, flavor-packed dishes that bring a slice of the Middle East to Ireland. This spot is perfect for anyone craving middle eastern cuisine while in Dublin.
16. Trocadero: The Trocadero Restaurant known as the city’s theatre restaurant, has been a beloved spot for over sixty-five years, attracting stars of the stage and screen, it really does have a movie like interior. Simple dishes that pack a punch this will definitely be a stand out restaurant on your trip.
17. Bloom Brasserie: Located on Baggot Street in Dublin, is a modern, family-run restaurant by two brothers known for its commitment to local sourcing and quality cuisine. A high quality place to enjoy a lovely dinner.

Fire Steakhouse: Awarded globally at the World Luxury Restaurant Awards, FIRE is a must-visit for steak lovers and those seeking a luxurious dining experience with a range of options including wood-fired tiger prawns, spiced Irish lamb skewers. Another restaurant that caught my attention with the beautiful interior and delicious looking food.
19. Canal Boat Restaurant: A unique dining experience aboard the MV Cadhla, a replica of a 1920s Guinness Canal Barge. Guests can enjoy a scenic two-hour cruise along Dublin’s Grand Canal, taking in the beautiful views from the deck before indulging in a delicious three-course meal prepared fresh onboard by expert chefs. This is seriously so cool weather permitting!
20. Pickle: Pickle Restaurant on Camden Street, Dublin, really stands out. Since it opened in March 2016, chefs Sunil Ghai and Benny Jacobs have been creating magic in the kitchen, serving up authentic North Indian dishes with a unique fresh Irish ingredient twist. If you are looking for something different in your time in Dublin, Pickle is it.
Final Thoughts
